Volunteer Recruitment for the First “GBase 8s New Version Public Beta with Prizes”

In 2024, after 20 years of development, GBASE's GBase database has faced fierce internal and external competition, experienced ups and downs, and has always adhered to its original aspiration and forged ahead. It has been widely applied in industries such as finance、telecommunications、government and enterprises、and security, and has gained a large number of users and partners.

Currently, under the trend of domestic information technology, database innovation is extremely active. In order to effectively enhance the competitiveness of GBase database products in the market, GBASE company plans to hold the "GBase 8s New Version Public Beta with Prizes" event after the 2024 Spring Festival. The new version has made many efforts in Oracle compatibility and tool usability. We especially invite users, partners, and students who love and care about the development of GBase database to actively participate in this public beta event as volunteers, verify the product through more application scenarios, and actively provide feedback on issues and improvement suggestions during product use, thereby helping GBase 8s database products to continuously improve and grow, and allowing users and manufacturers to work together to create a high-quality database that meets the needs of the Chinese market.

01 Event Time

1、Volunteer Recruitment: February 1, 2024 - February 22, 2024

2、Testing Period: February 23, 2024 - March 31, 2024

3、Evaluation Phase: April 1, 2024 - April 14, 2024

4、Prize Distribution: April 15, 2024 - April 22, 2024

02 What do volunteers need to do?

Based on your actual experience in using databases, perform installation and deployment of the new version of GBase 8s and its tools, application integration testing, and conduct functional testing, performance testing, etc. using various test cases. Form corresponding test reports on issues and improvement suggestions during product use, including but not limited to the following aspects.

1、 Test Environment Description: Including but not limited to server and tool installation environment, database version, etc.

2、 Test Method Description: Including but not limited to test tools, test scenarios, test cases, test data, man-hours spent on testing, etc.

3、 Test Issue Presentation: For discovered issues, perform repeated testing to ensure the issues can be reproduced. Record each issue in detail, including the issue situation, test cases, error messages, preliminary analysis, resolution suggestions, etc. If multiple issues are found, record them separately. Issues are classified into 5 levels by severity from low to high: Minor、Secondary、General、Serious、Crash.

4、 Propose Reasonable Requirements: Common SQL statements not supported by 8s, missing functions, usability, function optimization, etc. can all be proposed as new requirements. Multiple requirements are allowed. For each requirement, clearly record the usage scenario, function definition, and provide the presentation form of this function in other databases for reference.

Note:

1、The test report content must be published on the GBase community (https://www.gbase.cn/community). Volunteers need to register an account and have the community administrator grant them posting permissions in the special area for this public beta event before they can publish. Staff will review in the background, and the content between volunteers is not visible to each other.

2、Staff will review and confirm all proposed issues and requirements. After confirmation, they will serve as the basis for rewards in this event. Please ensure that all content is your original work.

03 Event Arrangement

1、Registration and Participation: February 1, 2024 - February 22, 2024

Volunteer Requirements:

1)  Professionals with experience in database application development, operation and maintenance management, database migration, and database evaluation.

2)  Experts with deep understanding of the database industry.

3)  GBase customers, partners, and GBase certified engineers are preferred.

Registration Method:

Use WeChat to scan the QR code on the poster below to register. After registration, qualifications will be reviewed. Those who pass the review will become volunteers and be invited to join the group to participate in this event.

Event Briefing:

An online briefing for this event will be held on February 22 to answer volunteers' questions online.

Publishing Method:

Step 1: Go to the GBase community homepage and find the [Post] entry.

Step 2: Write an article, select the "First GBase 8s New Version Public Beta with Prizes" section, choose the corresponding tag according to the article type, and publish the article.

After completing the above two steps, the test report is published.

Note:

1、If an issue or requirement is lengthy, it can be published in separate posts. If there are multiple posts, a summary post should be compiled at the end for easy evaluation, and the corresponding post links should be marked in the summary post.

2、Each post title must start with the name, and the corresponding tag should be selected for publishing. For example, for an issue post, the title should be "Name - Issue: ***", and the tag "Issue" should be selected; for a requirement post, the title should be "Name - Requirement: ***", and the tag "Requirement" should be selected; for a summary post, please write "Name - 8s Test Report" in the title, and select the tag "Summary Post".

2、Evaluation Phase: April 1, 2024 - April 14, 2024

We treat the issues and requirement suggestions raised by volunteers with an attitude of sincere cooperation, open-minded acceptance, and continuous improvement. The evaluation team will select based on the principles of contribution amount, quality priority, and more work, more reward.

The evaluation of this event is divided into two stages: issue and requirement confirmation, and test report excellence evaluation.

1）Issue and Requirement Confirmation:

The evaluation team will conduct background reviews of the issue and requirement posts published by volunteers on a weekly basis, communicate with volunteers in the WeChat group at any time, confirm undisputed issues and requirements, and if there is a dispute and after communication, volunteers can modify the content for confirmation the following week.

2）Test Report Excellence Evaluation:

After the testing period ends, volunteers submit a summary post (complete report). The evaluation team will comprehensively score based on the completeness of the test report content and contribution indicators, including dimensions such as test environment, test methods, confirmed issue levels, requirement levels, etc., and give rewards according to the scores.

Scoring Criteria (Total Score 200 Points)

Content Layout: 50 points. Scored based on content completeness, clear description, neat layout, and completeness of test information.

*Test Environment Description: Including but not limited to server and tool installation environment, database version, etc., scored 1-20 points.

*Test Method Description: Including but not limited to test tools, test scenarios, test cases, test data, man-hours spent on testing, etc., scored 1-20 points.

*Test Report Impression: Test report content is complete, format is clear, with illustrations and text, overall layout impression, etc., scored 1-10 points.

Issues and Requirements: 150 points. Scored based on the number, level, and smoothness of communication of submitted issues and requirements.

*Test Issue Presentation: Score issues that can be reproduced and confirmed after communication; issues are classified into 5 levels by severity from low to high: Minor、Secondary、General、Serious、Crash. Each issue is scored 1-10 points, and scores for multiple issues are added together.

*Propose Reasonable Requirements: Requirements are classified into 5 levels by scenario and feasibility from low to high: Usability、Composite Server Syntax Functions、Missing Tool Functions、Upstream and Downstream Interfaces、Composite Scenarios. Each requirement is scored 1-10 points, and scores for multiple requirements are added together.

Note:

1) Volunteers who do not complete the test or do not submit a test report will not be rewarded;

2) For test reports with incomplete content, unclear descriptions, no feasible suggestions, or a score below 30 points, the evaluation team will provide modification suggestions. Volunteers can resubmit the report for evaluation after modification (submission deadline is April 10);

3) Issues need to provide complete reproduction environment and database/tool error log information; requirements need to have descriptions or screenshots of the desired function points to be implemented;

4) The maximum total score is 200 points.

3、Prize Distribution: April 15, 2024 - April 22, 2024

The evaluation results will be announced on April 15 through the GBASE official website, "GBASE Database", and "GBASE Training Center" WeChat public accounts, and all rewards will be distributed within one week.

04 Event Prizes

Rewards will be given according to the scores, with no limit on quantity. Awards cannot be combined; the highest award prize will be taken.
