[GBASE Event] GBase 8s Database June 2022 University Student Special Training Successfully Concluded

Published on 2022-08-01

The second session of "GBase 8s Database June 2022 University Student Special Training" held by the GBASE Training Center in 2022 concluded in mid-July. This training, as a professional database practical course provided by the enterprise for university students, featured domestic database theory plus hands-on practice, attracting enthusiastic registration from students. Participants mainly came from Tianjin University of Science and Technology, Tianjin University Software College, and other junior-year students, along with a small number of GBase users. A total of 540 people registered, with university students accounting for 70%. After two weeks of study, the 8s certification exam was held on July 7. A total of 373 people took the exam, and 269 passed, earning the GBase 8s Database Management Engineer certificate.

There were 103 people with exam scores of 90 or above. To highlight the outstanding achievements of university students, this training set up two excellent student honor rolls: the Excellent University Student Honor Roll and the Excellent In-Service Personnel Honor Roll. The learning ability of university students was very strong, and their exam results were not inferior at all, even surpassing those of in-service personnel. All students selected for the honor rolls will receive a free paper certificate of GBase Management Engineer!

To ensure good training results, a dedicated WeChat learning group was organized, and university students also selected group leaders to facilitate communication between students and teachers. Throughout the learning process, several enthusiastic students emerged who were eager to help others, actively answered classmates' questions, and daily compiled questions from the learning group. Through teacher recommendations and student evaluations, six students from Tianjin University of Science and Technology were selected to receive the "Good Samaritan Award." Thank you to these students for their enthusiastic dedication!

This training has concluded successfully. Paper certificates will be shipped starting July 25. Certificates for some students from Tianjin University of Science and Technology will be sent uniformly to their counselors after the new semester begins. Certificates for other participants will be sent out normally. Some areas may experience delayed delivery due to the pandemic. Please pay attention to receiving them!

Previous Participants Talk About the Training

Li Jiaming, 2019 IoT Engineering Major, Tianjin University of Science and Technology:

As an undergraduate, my practical development experience and knowledge are not comprehensive or thorough, so I have only been exposed to relatively superficial things. GBase 8s, as a relational database, adopts a multi-process and multi-thread architecture, thereby improving the overall processing capability of the system. 8s has good recovery capabilities for sudden emergencies, such as power outages, with log preservation and recovery priority being the highest. It also designs smart large object data spaces. One unique data type of 8s impressed me deeply—the currency type, which can be displayed according to environment variable settings, stored internally as decimals, and displayed to users with the currency type. My initial impression of GBase is that it is simple and easy to understand, easy to get started with, and highly portable.

Yao Anmin, 2019 School of Artificial Intelligence, Tianjin University of Science and Technology:

This training offered relatively detailed course teaching for beginners, starting from installing GBase 8s to GBase 8s administrator commands. The overall course arrangement was good, with a comprehensive knowledge scope. There was a dedicated learning group for teachers to answer students' questions, allowing me to gain a relatively comprehensive understanding of the 8s database product. Being selected as a group leader this time was also a personal exercise. In my future work, I hope to be more meticulous and continue to improve.

Zhang Yongqi, 2019 IoT Engineering Major, Tianjin University of Science and Technology:

I am honored to participate in this June 2022 GBase 8s domestic database training. Through this training, I learned about the GBase 8s domestic database, and studied and practiced the installation and deployment of GBase 8s in a Linux environment. I mastered the basic syntax, operation and maintenance management, backup, and export of 8s. The training schedule was scientifically and reasonably arranged, with two hours of study per day, which did not excessively encroach on university students' personal free time. Each session had after-class exercises and an error notebook to consolidate the day's learning and deepen impressions. In the WeChat learning group, the teachers were conscientious and responsible, answering your difficult questions at any time. Overall, I learned GBase 8s domestic database in a relaxed and good learning environment during this practical training, but I still have some deficiencies in the specific use of 8s and am not very proficient in Linux commands, so further study is needed.

Zhang Yahui, Technical Support Engineer, Founder International Software (Beijing) Co., Ltd.:

In my work, I have always paid attention to the development of domestic databases and actively participate in related activities. When I learned about the technical training on GBase database in June, I participated with a beginner's mindset. GBase 8s is a relational database suitable for OLTP scenarios. From basic database installation and configuration and DDL/DML operations on database objects, to understanding data structure types and in-depth learning of data migration, backup and restoration, and other related content, I was able to deepen my understanding of the database by combining theoretical knowledge with practical operations. This gave me a certain overall understanding of the 8s database.
