See who wins the awards: results of the second "GBase 8s New Version Public Beta" event announced
The GBASE community held the second phase of the "GBase 8s New Version Public Beta with Rewards" event from September to October 2024. After evaluation by the judges, 15 volunteers won awards, and a total of over 230 valuable problem and requirement feedback items were collected. Compared with the first phase of the public beta, both the number of award winners and the number of collected problem and requirement items increased significantly. Through this event, we not only extensively gathered various issues and requirements but also gained deeper insights into users' real thoughts, thereby enhancing product maturity in a targeted manner and pointing the direction for subsequent product upgrades and improvements. This is of extraordinary significance for the GBase 8s database and the GEM and MTK tools. We hope that with the dedicated help of the volunteers, the GBase 8s database will better meet user needs, become more user-friendly, and continue to improve!
This public beta event adhered to the philosophy of "Many hands make light work; high-quality domestic products rely on everyone's efforts". Thirty volunteers were recruited from GBase database users, partners, and trainees to participate in the event. The volunteers used their spare time to install and test the GBase 8s database, the related operation and management tool GEM, and the migration tool MTK, and compiled test reports. A total of 230+ feedback items were submitted, doubling the amount of information collected in the previous public beta. In the spirit of sincere cooperation, open-minded acceptance, and continuous improvement, the 8s product line confirmed the issues and requirement suggestions raised by the volunteers. Some issues and requirements have been included in the development plan for the next new version and will be improved and implemented as soon as possible. Awards were evaluated based on the principles of contribution level, quality priority, and more work, more reward. Among the volunteers who submitted test reports, 8 volunteers were ultimately selected to receive Contribution Awards.

After half a year, I am very fortunate to participate in the GBase 8s software public beta again. Compared with the first event, this one has seen greater progress in both the number of participants and the activity level of the community. During this round of testing, I personally experienced how the issues and requirements I raised were implemented in the relevant GBase 8s software, which made me very delighted. In fact, this also reflects that the GBase community construction attaches considerable importance to the suggestions of database technology enthusiasts. There are several reasons why I actively participate in the public beta: first, I can engage in in-depth communication with the GBase team through feedback and suggestions; second, through testing, I not only acquire new skills but also broaden my horizons; third, the GBase community is very generous, allowing us participants to truly gain benefits. I am honored to participate in the second phase of the GBase 8s public beta, which has expanded my skills in the field of domestic databases. I am very grateful to GBASE for valuing the participants of the public beta. They specially set up a WeChat group composed of operations staff and developers to answer questions. With the active responses from the operations staff and developers, I was able to complete this public beta accurately and efficiently. Through this public beta, I believe that the GBase 8s product design is very rigorous, highlighting its features while being compatible with other general-purpose and domestic databases. The MTK and GEM tools are very useful graphical tools for beginners and their own database technicians. Although some issues were discovered during the public beta, it also indicates that the optimized GBase 8s database will become even more mature.

My impression of the product is: installation and deployment are relatively simple and convenient; you can complete the installation by executing a single script. The enterprise manager GEM provides a convenient graphical interface for managing databases and executing SQL, offering flexible usage.

Participating in the GBase 8s public beta was an unexpected surprise for me. When I accidentally discovered the information about the GBase public beta, as a technical professional passionate about domestic databases, I was immediately attracted to the event. In this public beta, I mainly experienced the GEM monitoring tool of GBase 8s. This tool left a deep impression on me. Its interface is intuitive, and its functions are comprehensive, meeting daily database monitoring needs. Although there is still room for improvement in some aspects, the overall user experience was very smooth. I also tried the MTK migration tool, which performed excellently in the data migration process from Oracle to GBase, with simple operation and a smooth migration process without any issues. Through this public beta, I gained a deeper understanding of GBase 8s and am full of expectations for the future development of domestic databases. I believe that the continuous progress and innovation of GBase 8s will bring more possibilities to the domestic database field.

I participated in the first phase of the GBase 8s public beta in March this year, after which the software developers at GBASE made improvements to this product. Looking forward to the new features, I participated again in the second phase of the public beta held in September this year. This time, I mainly focused on the installation, deployment, and functional testing of the GEM operation and management tool and the GMTK migration tool. Over the course of one month, I proposed modification suggestions for the issues that arose during testing. Throughout the hands-on practice, I also encountered some problems, which improved my ability to analyze and solve problems, and at the same time, I gained a deeper understanding of the GBase 8s tools. Through this testing, I feel that the product developers at GBASE are very professional. Compared with many similar domestic databases, the GBase 8s product performs very well in installation and deployment, cluster management, operation and maintenance monitoring, and data migration. I hope GBASE will continue to work hard, improve the shortcomings, and continuously optimize, making the GBase 8s database product more powerful and complete!

This GBase 8s public beta event was very meaningful. The product is also relatively convenient to use and can be quickly picked up. However, some designs are not very friendly for beginners and can still be further improved. Participating in the event gave me the opportunity to communicate with the developers, maintainers, and users of the database product.
